A CHARITY football match last month has helped raise over £2300 for Pancreatic Cancer UK in memory of a popular local man.
Nick Miles of Cirencester, died of pancreatic cancer back in July 2021 after being diagnosed with the disease just six months before and the match between Cirencester Legends and The Beeches Legends was set-up in his memory.
'Nick's Angels' organised the event, a group ran by Nick's widow Panda. She has a number of fundraising events lined up, including a skydive at the end of June to continue raising money toward her £20,000 target. The link if you wish to donate can be found here.
Cirencester Legends won the contest 7-4 in an entertaining match with The Beeches Legends on a glorious day at Cirencester Town FC. But the big winners were Nick's Angels, who raised £2,345 at the game, which was attended by over 200 people.
The Beeches FC presented their cheque of £300 to the cause, which sees the current total at just under £18,000. Nick's Angels have other charity events set-up going forward.
Sarah Hughes, a member of Nick's Angels, said: "We have been overwhelmed at how the Cirencester community has really turned up to support Nick's Angels.
"We have done a Darts Competition and Race Night, both held at the Drillmans Arms.
"Andy Bell organised a Charity Golf Day at Cirencester for Pancreatic Cancer as well as The Brain Tumour Charity in memory of Nick Miles and Martin Righton, both members of Ciren Golf Club before they died.
"The final fundraising event is the Headshave (two women having their hair shaved off on the night) and Quiz Night, Friday June 9 at Cirencester Rugby Club.
"We then finish with 11 of us jumping out of a plane on June 24!"
