MALMESBURY Amateur Boxing Club took two boxers up to the event in Bristol for bouts against their Shirehampton hosts
‘Posh’ Sam Lydiate put in a great performance against a strong and taller opponent in Lennon Storr from the home club.
It was a tough bout with both boxers catching each other with good shots. But Sam's fitness played a vital part in him being able to apply continual pressure and get a points win from the judges.
As for Cain ‘Bashemup’ Bassindale, he faced highly rated Liam Scott from the home club.
The pair went at it throughout in what was a really good, exciting contest. It was close - each of the Malmesbury party thought that Liam had done enough to deservedly get the decision - but it’s a bout that went the way of the home team, although thoughts have already turned to a potential rematch.
Cain was disappointed with his performance but in defeat there was plenty of positives and having not boxed competitively in almost five months, being back in the ring will have no doubt have given him a big boost to get back in the groove.
