IT was another action-packed weekend for members of Cirencester Athletics Club as they took part in a number of events up and down the country.

This week, Ian Barrett ventured across the border into Wales to complete the Great Welsh Marathon.

His training regime, following the Hanson approach - splitting the traditional long run over two medium runs on consecutive days instead, seems to have paid off as he ran a brilliant time of 2hrs 58mins to finish in 16th place overall.

The run in Pembrey Country Park took in the South Wales coast which had its challenges, mainly the wind blowing in off the sea - the tailwind on the way out was welcome, but this was unfortunately a headwind on the way back, really ramping up at mile 25.

Closer to home, CAC member Mike Hobbs was running the Bath half marathon, a popular local race that he reports was a great event with good weather. Aaron Willis also ran this race but reported a different experience, soldiering on to the end despite feeling unwell.

Alex Banks ran the 'Big Cheese', a very hilly trail race with over 2000ft of ascent in the Mendip hills in Somerset putting in a strong performance to come home 8th overall in a field of over 200 runners.

Onto the Parkruns for this week:

Ollie Campbell was running in Coventry with a speedy time as usual. In Oxford, team Thomas ride again, with James pushing both kids in the double buggy (which is a guiness world record holder for the fastest double buggy marathon having been inherited from Rob Forbes), he put in a great performance weaving around the other 492 runners, encouraged on by shouts of 'faster Daddy faster!' Liz meanwhile ran her fastest parkrun since becoming a Mum of two.

Gordon and Rachel Jones were down in Weymouth and Dave Moss was in Melksham. At the local Cirencester parkrun, the slippery conditions abound slowing runners down but not deterring the eight brave souls who ran on Saturday.

Zac Humphries, Rachel Ranger, Jo Musk - completing her 50th Parkrun whilst also running with son Brecon who achieved a PB and completed his 20th parkrun - Tom Morgan, Pam Wheeler (topping her age grading category), Kirsty Leggate, Amanda Naylor and Jos Randall.
