SWINDON Town are said to be interested in reuniting manager Mike Flynn with ex-Newport County goalkeeper Tom King, according to reports.

King is currently a free agent after being released by recently-promoted Northampton Town and is looking to seal his future before pre-season begins.

According to assistant sports content editor at the Sunday Mirror, Darren Witcoop, the 28-year-old stopper has allegedly been offered another contract by Northampton - where he spent the second half of last season - but is weighing up his options with Swindon also said to be considering a deal.

Northampton have talented goalkeeper Lee Burge under contract but are keen to retain King's services too in order to give the ex-Coventry City stopper some genuine competition as they return to League One.

Only the player will know whether he would consider dropping back down a level in order to increase his chances of regular game time.

King - who has been called up to the senior Welsh squad several times but is yet to make his debut - played eight games for the Cobblers last term, keeping four clean sheets in the process.

Prior to that, King played 64 games for Salford City across an 18-month period and recorded 23 shut-outs along with 69 goals allowed.

Potentially central to any deal for King at Swindon, the 28-year-old played under Robins boss Flynn while at Newport County between 2019-21.

The Plymouth-born gloveman featured 52 times for the Exiles, including most of the Covid-affected 2020-21 season where County reached the League Two play-off final but lost 1-0 to Morecambe at Wembley.

King was in goal as Mendes Gomes' controversial 107th-minute penalty found the net to send the Shrimps up into the third tier.

A Crystal Palace Under-21 product, King can count Stevenage, Millwall, and AFC Wimbledon among his former employers.

Meanwhile, Swindon are searching for a new number one after Middlesbrough loanee Sol Brynn returned to the Riverside at the conclusion of the 2022-23 campaign.

With the inexperienced Conor Brann as the club's only goalkeeping option as things stand, Flynn is thought to be especially keen on bolstering that particular area as quickly as possible.
