ITALIAN international scrum-half Stephen Varney has re-signed with Gloucester Rugby ahead of the 2023/24 season.
21-year-old Varney was promoted into the senior squad by George Skivington in 2020 after an impressive run of form and has since been a regular figure in the Cherry & Whites squad.
He was capped at international level in 2020 for Italy, whom he qualified for through his Italian mother and has gone on to win 19 caps for the Azzurri.
The 21-year-old has made 37 appearances in Cherry & White, with 16 of those coming this season.
Gloucester Rugby Head Coach, George Skivington is pleased that Varney will remain at Kingsholm.
“It’s easy to forget that Steve is still only a young man because he’s been around the first team now for a couple of seasons and is an established international.
“He’s another academy graduate who we are really proud of because of what he’s achieved already, but we believe there's still a lot more to come from him.
“We’re looking forward to hopefully seeing him play an important role for Italy in the World Cup and returning to Gloucester next season with even more experience under his belt.”
