LOUIS Harvey won the final round of Shenington Winter Series to secure a second place finish in the Winter Championship.
Harvey, from Malmesbury, saw his Saturday practise hampered with an engine that needed running in and very windy conditions so he didn’t really get much time for full speed testing.
On race day and due to the high number of drivers the grids were split across three heats with each driver only racing in two.
Harvey’s starting positions were 12th in heat two and an 11th in heat three.
Both heats required him to clear traffic, avoid any incidents and push to the front in order to get a good grid position for the final.
Starting heat two Harvey was quickly into sixth and pushing to climb higher.
He crossed the line in third with the fastest lap of the session
Heat three was a messy start and Harvey dropped to 13th across the line but had recovered to 10th after the first lap.
He was up to sixth by lap four but had a massive gap to close to the front runners.
By lap 12 he had managed to close the gap and was in to third which was his finishing position, again setting the fastest lap.
This had qualified him third for the final and as the clouds rolled in the driver crossed the start line.
A clean start and Harvey was straight into the lead but an incident on lap two saw the Battenberg flags come out and the drivers having to slow in single file while the incident was cleared away.
While the drivers waited for the green flags a light drop of rain turned the track into an ice rink with all the driver on slick tyres.
As the flags went green it was all about staying on the track and not making any mistakes until the track dried.
Harvey drove a flawless few laps in the slippery conditions and pulled out a 1.5 second lead which as the track dried he had extended to cross the line with a 2.6 second gap and his third fastest lap of the day.
Harvey’s win in the final round of the series saw him secure second place overall with his team mate Ben Watson winning the series.
This gave Klaassen Motorsport a one-two for the new ARC chassis in the Shenington Kart Club Winter series and continue their fantastic start to 2019.
