GLOUCESTERSHIRE'S Angie Thompson maximised on her final draw to claim victory in the final British Horse Feeds Speedi-Beet HOYS Grade C Qualifier of the season with Fremont VDL, securing a place in the Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show in October.
On Wednesday, August 15, a quality field of thirty-five contended course-designer Peter Gillespie’s 12-fence track with fifteen providing first round clears to go forward to the deciding round against the clock.
It was a close, tight and nail-biting jump-off with just 0.42 seconds separating the first three.
Nonetheless, Angie, who is based in Chipping Campden, Gloucestershire, and Eleri Perry’s Bacardi VDL eight-year-old Fremont VDL were on form.
Crowned National Grade C Champions just a few days earlier at the British Showjumping National Championships, the pair forged ahead to take the top spot by 0.34 seconds.
“It was a very quick jump-off but I made up the time early on between the first three fences, I got a forward rhythm and kept moving,” said Angie.
The top three qualify for the British Horse Feeds Speedi-Beet HOYS Championship, and Angie is joined by Helen Tredwell on Galtur and Alex Bishop’s Thomascourt Atlantis.

1st: Angie Thompson & Fremont VDL – 0/0 – 37.33 seconds
2nd: Helen Tredwell & Galtur – 0/0 – 37.67 seconds
3rd: Alex Bishop & Thomascourt Atlantis – 0/0 – 37.75 seconds
