INTERNATIONAL rugby referee Nigel Owens MBE was a memorable guest at a Fairford Town FC fund-raising evening last Friday.
Owens discussed his path to the top and tales from an impressive career so far in what was an entertaining night for the sell-out room of about 85 guests.
The night was compered by former Swindon Town striker Sam Parkin, while Gloucester rugby’s Billy Burns was also in attendance. There was also a silent auction run by The Events Room that proved popular – with guests bidding for items such as a signed Anthony Joshua glove and a signed British & Irish Lions shirt.
A signed 2003 World Cup shirt – auctioned for Help for Heroes – raised £250 for the charity.
Organiser Chris Tanner, a member of the Fairford Town FC committee, said: “It was a brilliant night. Nigel Owens was immense and our thanks go to all those guests who supported the evening, with a special mention to Alex Paton and Fairford RFC for their support.
“I must also extend a big thank you to all those club committee members and volunteers who worked tirelessly to make the evening such a success.”
