Cirencester League Div Two
Blunsdon 0 Minety 2
MINETY finished their Cirencester League season with an unbeaten run of nine games thanks to well deserved victories at both Blunsdon FC and Kingshill Sports.
The Blunsdon game started at a high tempo and after the previous week's 3-3 draw between the two teams this one promised to have plenty of goals.
Minety were playing with the wind at their backs and it was hard for Blunsdon to get out of their own half. Minety created more early chances but it wasn't until the 35th minute when, after mounting pressure, Joe Haywood scored directly from a corner kick.
Blunsdon did rally in the last 10 minutes of the half and put the Minety defenders under a bit of pressure – but without scoring.
Blunsdon had an early chance to level matters in the second half but the shot was blazed over the bar.
In the 88th minute Jake Pegler made the points safe. Receiving the ball with his back to goal, Pegler rolled his marker and placed a firm left-footed shot beyond the host’s keeper.
Former Oaksey captain Pegler made it eight goals in three games as Minety won 2-0 at Kingshill Sports on Saturday. Robin Collier was the other scorer.
The last two wins helped Minety to finish eighth in the table, a vast improvement compared to the last two seasons when they finished bottom or next to bottom.
