In this house the fact you can see through it is not the most extraordinary feature.
The Glasshouse sits between three lakes within a private estate in the Cotswolds, near Lechlade-on-Thames.
Although all the houses have access to a pool, concierge and tennis courts, this £7,995,000 one is “distinguished from any other on the estate”.
The agent, NestSeekers, says this is because of its location surrounded by water, but it could equally be for its sauna, jacuzzi, snooker table, bar and nine-seater cinema in the basement.
The cinema is 3.5 metres underwater but light filters in from the forest around through the ceiling.
While this house is very modern, some parts are 500 years old, namely the stairs which are carved from a single Slovenian tree.
In the kitchen is not only an oven but also a pizza oven and a tandoor, so you can make authentic Italian-Indian fusion cookery with ease. “Cooks will be in their element”, says the agent.
The seller says: “The harmony between landscape and interior, architecture and nature, was a key design determinant with the house, particularly regarding sight lines, materials, colours and lighting.
“All these aspects work together to ensure the property’s sense of timelessness.”
Most of the house is made out of triple-glazed 7cm thick glass which apparently gives it a very low energy consumption.
However, some parts are wood. They were “subjected to the ancient Japanese art of burning timber”, providing a long-lasting, fire-resistant finish free from chemical preservatives.
As for actually living in the house, there are four beds and five baths on 6,000 square feet over three levels.
If it all the “earthy, light and transparent materials” get too much, you can escape to the terrace where you can survey the three lakes around you.
Or you can escape to the country, with its “800 square miles of beautiful scenery, chocolate box villages, vibrant market towns, miles and miles of countryside walks”.
The house promises not only to be a place to live but somewhere “designed to rejuvenate your mind, body, and spirit”.
This is helped by an on-site spa in the complex, with treatments offered in collaboration with Kate Moss’s cosmetics brand.
