CIRENCESTER ended a run of three straight defeats with a good all-round display and a well-earned win against Taunton Town.
Skipper Matt Sysum once again showed what a dangerous player he is at set pieces to put Ciren ahead in the 27th minute and Scott Griffin eased some jangling nerves with the second goal three minutes from time.
Taunton did get a consolation goal from Simon Ingram’s spot kick deep into stoppage time.
That spoilt a potential clean sheet for keeper Lee Clatworthy, who was promoted from the development team after Matt Bath, who had come out of retirement at the start of the season, decided to call it a day for good.
After a fast, furious and even start it was Ciren who went ahead just before the half-hour mark, Sysum powering home a trademark header from five yards off a Ben Wells corner.
Ciren came close to making it 2-0 four minutes later when a Sam Collier rocket was acrobatically kept out by Taunton keeper Matthew Unwin.
Ciren did have the ball in the net again before the half-time whistle after a goalmouth scramble but the referee adjudged that the keeper had been fouled.
Taunton Town set the pace in the second half as Khalid Badavi and Craig Herrod both went close before Ciren were under siege from three free kicks in quick succession, with Jamie Reid having to head the most dangerous one off the line.

Ciren rallied and started to dominate play but the crucial second goal would not come.
With almost his last contribution before being substituted by Griffin in the 81st minute, Collier looked to have headed home the second Ciren goal but the ball went inches wide of the post.
With eight minutes to go, Taunton were reduced to ten men when Ben Mammola received his second yellow card after bringing down Joe Shepherd.
Still Ciren wasted chances to finish off their opponents until Griffin netted a superb late half-volley.
But in the 93rd minute, Taunton’s Badavi broke into the box and was upended by Wells. Simon Ingram stepped up to fire the ball past Clatworthy, but Ciren deservedly held on to go back to fifth place in the league.
