TRIBUTES have been paid to former Deer Park student Robert Massey who died after driving off a bridge in Cirencester.
Hundreds of messages and photos have flooded a Facebook page created in memory of the popular and vibrant 26-year-old from Cirencester.
Robert died yesterday after his car veered off a bridge near to the Golden Farm Inn and crash landed on its roof on the A429 dual carriageway below, at 6.15pm on Friday.
He was taken by Wiltshire Air Ambulance to John Radcliffe Hospital but did not recover from the multiple injuries he sustained.
A 25-year-old female passenger suffered fractures to the pelvis and spine in the crash. She is now in a stable condition at Frenchay Hospital in Bristol.
Family and friends have shared their disbelief, sorrow and fond memories on the Facebook page 'In Memory of Robert Massey'.
His sister Amy posted a touching poem in tribute to Robert.
"To my Brother:
Words are hard to describe feelings, I have always been better with images.
Yet writing down how much I miss you, Seems to give me more tranquility.
Writing to let go, to give this all a place.
It will never heal, it will never go away, But just learning to give it time and space.
I can tell you how much I care, how much I would give to have you back in my life,
But you know all of this and it won't change anything, that's what I am learning within time,
Writing to tell you how much I have learned, to show you that through all this I become a stronger person
More able to understand, more able to listen and to care,
Hurt through loss, I've become yet a wiser person
I love you xx"
The crash narrowly missed rush hour and no other vehicles are reported to have been damaged or involved in the incident.
The A429 Swindon Road was closed off in both directions until 1.30am on Saturday, from the Grove Lane junction to the Bristol Road junction. The road is now open.
A police investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. Anyone with information should contact Gloucestershire Police on 101.
