OVER 45 local riders took to the roads on a hot and dry night to tackle the latest round of the ten-time trial series.
However, in last Thursday evening's event, Corinium Cycling Club rider Jason Costello suffered yet another puncture and was unable to finish, leaving Allan Norwood to scoop the win with a time of 23min 53sec.
Other times are as follows: Andy Smith 24.12, Steve Yates 24:38, Derek Mitchell 24:49, Callum Lister 24:55, Mark Sysum 25:15, Andy Kirk 25:18, Steve Chapman 25:23, Gareth Vernon-Roberts 25:26, Melvin Packham 25:54, Mark Foyn 26:15, Gerry Peppin 26:31, Jack Mitchell 26:41, Dave Kent 27:02, Tim Haigh-Gannon 27:50 and Terry Barry 31:51.
Last Sunday's club run was reduced to just two riders who were helped on their way by Peter Holden, who initially had to leave due to other commitments.
However, by 10am he was free and so set off in hot pursuit. Riding via Compton Abdale, past Guiting Power to Kineton, he met the two other emerging from a side road.
They had journeyed via Withington and Wittington to avoid the hills at Compton Abdale.
From here, the three-strong group carried on to Lavender Farm for tea. The original twosome then made their way home while Peter carried on to lunch.
After refreshments, he headed back to Gloucester, explored the new roads round the docks to come out though Hempstead before heading home to Cirencester.
A week earlier, Peter Holden had competed in the Great Eastern 600km audax, completing his super randonneur series of treks for 2005 comprising 200, 300, 400 and 600km rides.
The ride started at 5am from Manningtree and went north and then west to King's Lynn before going south across the fens to the Shaftesbury Cycle Club hut, near Stanstead, for a little sleep.
It was then a case of heading back north again into Northamptonshire and back across by now some hot and windy fens to Newmarket and, finally, to Manningtree.
Club members offer their many congratulations to Peter for his great rides so early in the year.
