WITH an excellent round of 64 (nett), up and coming youngster Mathew Page beat off all comers to win this year's coveted Bathurst Cup at Cirences-ter Golf Club.
Page's tremendous victory represents yet another outstanding achievement for one of Cirencester Golf Club's junior players. Top placings are: 1 Mathew Page (64), 2 Alex Hobson (66), 3 Andrew Tibbles and 4 David Warden.
Meanwhile, there have been three matches to date for the club's ladies' section in June but, unfortunately, none proved too successful.
The Alliance B team played Brickhampton at home and lost 6-12 when the only winners were Margaret Davey, Lynne Ritchie and Chris Keen.
Adn when the Alliance A team played Cotswold Hills away, they managed only four points to 14 with Sheila Telling and Ros Ewer being the two winners.
This was followed by another away match at Minchinhampton New with another loss by the margin of three points to 15.
This time, it was again Ros Ewer who gained two ponts with Emma Brereton managing a half for the other point.
A club Stableford, combined with a County Kitkat qualifier, resulted in Silver Division success for Chris Keen with 35pts.
The runner-up w as Sally Shackleton with 34. Bronze Division was Shirley Anderson 38 and the runner-up Joyce Hall 37.
The six qualifiers were Chris Keen, Sheila Westmacott, Jill Briggs, Marge Seabrook, Linda McIntosh, Barbara Chesworth and Chris Park.
Conditions for the June medal on Saturday the 12th (CSS 71) and Thursday the 16th (CSS72), when it was very wet and humid, contrasted greatly.
Hilary Swan won the silver division 85-13 (nett 72) on the back nine from Emma Brereton 84-12-72.
Muriel Telling achieved a nett 67-89-22 to beat Barbara Grimwade nett 69-93-24.
On a hot but perfect golfing day, a club Stableford in one division, combined with Cancer Relief (CSS 71), produced some good scores. In a good contest, the winner was Carole Richardson with 38 points on back nine from Melanie Matthews.
