WILTSHIRE County CC's Championship match against Berkshire at Finchampstead last Sunday, Monday and Tuesday was finally abandoned as a draw at tea on the third day after numerous stoppages for rain on the second and third days.
Berkshire won the toss and chose to bat in overcast conditions. But their rivals were soon on top with Berkshire slumping to 98-7.
Then an eighth-wicket stand of 120 between Steve Naylor (78) and James Kingstone (47no) took the score to 218 before Toby Sharpe took three quick wickets and the side were all out for 224.
For Wiltshire, Toby Sharpe took 5-22, Kevin Nash 3-48 and James Hibberd 2-73. In reply, Wiltshire lost Eddie Abel and Russell Rowe with the score at 13 before a stand of 87 between Damian Shirazi (52) and Michael Coles (70) retrieved the situation.
When Coles was out, two more wickets fell for two runs before Shirazi and James Hibberd (61) put on 79 for the sixth wicket.
Wilts were all out for 215, giving Berks a lead of nine runs. In Berkshire's second innings, it was loose bowling that enabled them to reach 161-3 before Joe Dorgan took four quick wickets to peg them back.
On the third day after numerous stoppages for rain, they declared at lunch on 284-9, leaving Wiltshire to score 294 to win in 60 overs. Joe Dorgan took 5-50.
Only 13 overs were bowled between lunch and tea when rain finally finished the match.
Wiltshire had reached 45 for the loss of Eddie Abel with both Damian Shirazi and Russell Rowe 20no. Both teams picked up 11 points from the outcome.
This weekend sees a Minor Counties Knockout Cup quarter-final for Wiltshire against Wales at Westbury on Sunday, starting at 11.30am.
