TWO suspected burglars have been arrested after police responded to a report of a break-in at an address near Cirencester last night, Wednesday November 20.

Gloucestershire police said a member of the public called police just after 6pm to report witnessing two men acting suspiciously in the garden of an address in Stratton.

It was reported that the men, who were dressed in black, had entered the side gate of the property.

Police officers from Cirencester quickly attended and found the rear window of the address had been forced open.

The suspects had fled from the scene, but after a short chase on foot, one of the men was detained at around 6.10pm.

Officers from Stow-on-the-Wold assisted with the search for the second male, who was located a short time later in the allotments in Cheltenham Road.

A hammer and crowbar were seized from the suspects.

The two men, aged 38 and 39, were arrested on suspicion of burglary and remain in custody at this time.

Anyone who witnessed suspicious activity or has information they feel is relevant is asked to complete the following online form from Gloucestershire Constabulary, quoting incident number 369 of November 20: gloucestershire.police.uk/tua/tell-us-about/cor/tell-us-about-existing-case-report

As the winter months approach and the nights get darker earlier, officers would like to remind residents of the protective measures that can be taken to help ensure homes and outbuildings are as safe as possible.

Homeowners are advised to install a ‘WIDE’ combination of security devices to help protect their home, shed or garage from burglary, as well as ensuring that back gates are secure.

A ‘WIDE’ combination includes:

  • Window locks

  • Indoor lights on timer switches

  • Double door locks or deadbolts

  • External lights on a sensor
