A HOMEBUILDER in the area has provided a £6,000 grant to a Malmesbury football club.

Malmesbury Victoria FC has secured the grant from Persimmon Homes Wessex through its Community Champions scheme.

The money will fund the installation of a new fence at the club’s grounds, enhancing the safety and security of the facilities for players as well as spectators.

Malmesbury Victoria FC, a community-focused football club, gives opportunities for people of all ages to engage in the sport and develop their skills.

Meanwhile, Persimmon Homes Wessex - whose regional headquarters are located in Tetbury Hill, Malmesbury - is nearing the conclusion of a 200-home scheme at Backbridge Farm in the town.

Once completed, the development will also include a village green, pocket parks, play areas and attenuation ponds.

A bridge has also been built to provide convenient access between the development and Malmesbury town.

The homebuilder has previously made donations to Wiltshire Air Ambulance and Malmesbury town carnival.

To mark the donation, representatives from the housebuilder and football club were joined by Malmesbury town mayor Councillor Phil Exton.

Commenting on the grant, Brendon Rice, secretary for Malmesbury Victoria FC, said: “We are very grateful to Persimmon Homes Wessex for its generous donation.

“The new fence will make a significant difference in enhancing the safety and security of our grounds, ensuring that the club continues to be a welcoming space for players, families and supporters.

“This investment is a testament to the community spirit shared between Malmesbury Victoria FC and our local partners.”

“Our Community Champions scheme is all about giving back to the areas where we build, and we have a proud history and presence in Malmesbury with our regional HQ and high-quality Backbridge Farm development,” Seb Spiller, deputy managing director for Persimmon Homes Wessex, said.

“Malmesbury Victoria FC is a cornerstone of the community, and we are delighted to support its efforts in maintaining and improving its facilities.

“We hope this funding will help the club continue to thrive and benefit local families for many years to come.”
