A BRAVE 77-year-old ex-nurse undertook a wing walk to raise money for a charity in the area recently.

Josie Howley, who lives at over-60s village Siddington Park in Cirencester, took to the skies standing on top of a 1940s Boeing Stearman biplane.

She flew from RFC Rendcomb Airfield near Rendcomb - home to the world’s only aerobatic formation wing walking team, AeroSuperBatics - on August 17.

Aerosuperbatics’ lead display pilot, David Barrell, was set to take Josie up to 800ft, travelling at 140 mph.

Josie’s wing walk was in aid of the charity Meningitis Now, based in Stroud, where her daughter works.

The flight was sponsored by retirement village company Rangeford Villages, which Siddington Park (located by the A419 near Siddington) is part of.

The business also donated to Josie’s JustGiving page for the feat.

Rangeford Villages has been ‘reinventing retirement’ for its residents by investing in celebrating individuals’ lives, achievements and passions with personalised experiences to create new memories and boost wellbeing. The first phase of the Retirement Reinvented campaign was being launched at Siddington Park.
