AN angry householder whose refuse was left for almost six weeks is the latest person to be caught up in the Cirencester waste collection debacle.

Retired foster carer Jane Jones says she has watched in despair for weeks as bin lorries pass her home near Siddington play area but never stop.

No waste was collected from Wednesday, August 28 to Wednesday, October 9 while her recycling was only collected on Tuesday this week.

The incident is the latest of a series of waste-collection problems which started when Cotswold District Council introduced a new regime at the end of June.

Ms Jones, who has lived in Siddington since 2007, has had to fill bin bags with household waste.

Speaking on Monday before the recycling had been taken, she said: “It’s a total nuisance.

“Some of the waste has been in the bin for nearly six weeks.

“I pay my council tax and waste collection is about the only service I get and I’m not getting it.”

The refuse and recycling was first missed on Wednesday, September 11.

Ms Jones decided not to report this as she didn’t have much waste to be taken away, however it was missed again during the next scheduled collection two weeks later.

She called CDC and was told to call back the next day.

When she rang back the council said the waste would be collected in the next three working days but despite this by Friday, October 4 - more than a week later - nothing had happened.

She then rang again to request an urgent collection but nothing happened.

Her recycling and household waste were eventually collected this week.

Council leaders have apologised for the collection problems after changes were implemented over the summer.

Last week, the Standard reported how an overflowing bin was spotted in School Lane, Cirencester with an angry note attached asking for it to be collected and questioning why residents were paying council tax.

There have been numerous complaints since the start of July with many householder like Ms Jones waiting for weeks on end for a collection.

In a statement this week, a CDC spokesperson said: “Waste collections take place as expected for the vast majority of households in the district, with 99.64% of collections being made as scheduled during September.

“Collections can be missed for a range of reasons, so it’s important that we look into the individual circumstances to understand what has happened.

“When collections don’t go as planned, particularly if this has happened more than once within a short period of time, we appreciate this can be frustrating for householders.

"When this is reported to us, we work with our waste contractor to investigate what has happened.

"We then work with them to remedy the situation as quickly as possible and take the appropriate steps to ensure collections are made successfully going forward.

“We apologise to anyone who has experienced a delay in having their refuse or recycling collected and would urge anyone who has a missed collection to let us know so we can arrange for crews to return and prevent the matter escalating. The easiest way to do this is online."
