Corinium Ales has launched their first beer brewed with locally-grown organic barley from The Bathurst Estate Farms, Cirencester.
Bathurst Barley Beer (B.B.B), a 5% crisp golden ale, has been described as one of their classic debut beers – Corinium Gold – on steroids, and has been in the making for a while, with a trial brew produced earlier this year.
Lucy Cordrey, of Corinium Ales says, ‘We are very excited be able to brew a beer with barley grown on the doorstep of our microbrewery. The barley is harvested by the Estate and then malted (to provide the sugars for fermentation) at Warminster Maltings, a traditional floor malthouse in Wiltshire, who have been instrumental in enabling us to produce this beer with provenance.’
Neal Gilbert, combine driver from the Estate’s farms team, adds, ‘I’ve been an avid Corinium Ales fan since they located to The Old Kennels in 2016, and I’m pleased to be involved in this project.’
‘It is a delight to see estate-grown produce used and consumed locally in this way,’ says Lord Bathurst. ‘We are pleased to support Corinium Ales at The Old Kennels and to watch this business thrive with their fantastic, award-winning beers. Who knows, this could be the start of many more exciting initiatives!’
B.B.B is brewed with Bathurst Estate Farms’ own-grown Westminster organic barley and next year some kitchen garden hops, grown at Roots + Seeds, will also be added to the beer.
B.B.B will be available in both draught and bottle from Corinium Ales microbrewery bar and shop counter at The Old Kennels in Cirencester Park, as well as Roots + Seeds Deli, and a small number of select local outlets.
