10. Finalists of BBC Gloucestershire awards

Well done and congratulations must go to Marion Savage and Valerie Baker for making the finalists of the BBC Gloucestershire make a difference awards who attended a presentation hosted by some of the BBC Gloucestershire Radio presenters and made the finals out of hundreds of nominees  for tirelessly raising money for the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity by Facebook selling donations, Car boot sales, raffles, tombolas and bingo nights.

Marion and her sister Val started fundraising for a dog called Jasper who was ill and needed some help, and so the fundraising bingo sessions began.

But was so successful they wondered who would benefit from such a great community event. Marion’s daughter Alison had need of the air ambulance to which she will be eternally grateful so it seemed fitting to fund raise for this great and much-needed charity.

Afterwards  the always modest Marion said all we only accepted to do this to raise awareness of our wonderful charity which we are proud to fundraise for.

We didn't win in our category we got highly commended, the winner ( well deserved ) had raised millions which made our £60,000+ look like a drop in the ocean however we achieved what we set out to do the proof shows in the amount of likes and lovely comments everyone made so Thank you all. I've said this before but we couldn't do what we do without the help we get from Pam, she makes us beautiful items to sell, also the lovely donations we receive and the purchases made, every pound helps the blades go round. Thank you all for your support.

The Air Ambulance Service (founded in 2008)  is a charity entirely funded by donation. They don’t simply fly people to the nearest hospital.

They treat accidents at the scene and in the air, providing lifesaving expertise before they even reach the hospital they provide lifesaving emergency care to people who are in a state so critical that they require the specialist skills of our team at the scene of the accident, as quickly as possible.
