A BROKEN down freight train between Stroud and Kemble caused services to be cancelled and delayed this morning.
Services between Cheltenham Spa and Swindon were affected by the blockage at around 7am today, Thursday, September 26.
In a statement on social media, Great Western Railway said a freight train came to a stop and blocked the line.
“Due to a broken down train between Stroud and Kemble, the line is blocked,” the post read.
“Train services between Cheltenham Spa and Swindon via Gloucester may be delayed.
“We're sorry for the delay to your journey.”
GWR have now confirmed the blocked down train is now on the move again towards Swindon.
It is understood disruption is now expected until 10.45am.
A GWR spokesperson said: “A freight train had come to a stop between Stroud and Kemble.
“Another locomotive has been coupled to it and it is now on the move towards Swindon.
A spokesperson from National Rail said: “All lines have reopened between Cheltenham Spa and Swindon following a broken down train between these stations.
“While the service recovers trains may be cancelled, revised or delayed by up to 30 minutes.”
