HOCKEY PLAYERS from across Cirencester and beyond descended on Deer Park School's AstroTurf on Saturday (7 Sept) for the preseason club day.

Over 80 players battled it out across 10 mixed teams on a humid and muggy day.

Playing over half pitches in 15-minute matches the day brought together both sides of the club with everyone having a chance to play regardless of ability.

After fierce competition Ben Tovey, Marcus Grinnell, Pete Willett, Brett Leese, Jonty Howarth, Charles TF, Darcy Fielder and Molly Flanagan were crowned 2024 champions.

A penalty shuffle competition midway through saw some enthusiastic attempts on goal, with Matt Wilcox taking home the penalty shuffle crown.

Throughout the day, the ladies 1s kicked off the club's fundraising for more junior goalkeeper kit in fine style with a BBQ and cake stand bringing in over £300.

Club chair, Juliette Finn said: "Club day is a great opportunity for our club to come together after the summer break.

"It's great to see so many people here supporting the club, catching up with friends and welcoming new players.

"I look forward to seeing everyone at training over the coming weeks."

Cirencester Hockey Club is currently based at Deer Park School and has five men's and five ladies teams alongside a thriving junior section.
