TIME is running out to see a ‘once-in-a-lifetime’ exhibition about King Athelstan in Malmesbury.
Volunteers have been working behind the scenes for over a year to secure various important heritage items at the Athelstan Museum.
The exhibition is part of the town’s celebrations of King Athelstan becoming king of the Mercian and Wessex kingdoms in 924.
According to organisers, the display includes various objects from the Anglo Saxon era that hardly ever go out on display.
For instance, the land grant charter signed in the presence of King Athelstan, loaned from the British Library and the evocative Abingdon Sword from the Ashmolean Museum.
Also on display is a rare seal matrix from the V&A Museum London.
Meanwhile, an interactive new tablet display lets you explore the Law Codes of a King and more.
The display is at the museum until September 30.
