Liam Gallagher has set the internet on fire by ending his Reading Festival set appearing to confirm the news so many Oasis fans have been dying to hear.

After months of teasing and torture, the Britpop legend took to the stage at Richfield Avenue on Sunday night to bring the five-day music festival to an end and dedicated the classic song Half the World Away to his older brother and former bandmate Noel Gallagher.

The move came after he hinted about an Oasis reunion on X/ Twitter on Sunday morning, which sent the hearts of die-hard supporters racing across the nation. He cryptically tweeted he “never liked the word FORMER” in reference to Liam’s status in relation to the band.  

Closing his 90-minute performance tonight, Liam addressed the crowd by saying: “Let’s give the people what they want!” 

This battle cry came at the same time as signs flashed up on the stage screens reading “27/08/24 - 8am” in the classic font used for the Oasis logo. At the same time his brother Noel, 57, tweeted out the image from his social media accounts, confirming the news. 

It is widely expected this is in reference to an official statement regarding an upcoming Oasis “reunion” tour. The band parted ways in 2009 with both brothers perusing successful solo ventures. 

Gallagher appeared on the main stage at 9:45pm at the Richfield Avenue site where he wowed tens of thousands of fans.

The brothers last played Reading together back in 2004. 

Rumors of a possible reunion have been bubbling for years, first prompted by news Liam was spending Boxing Day with his estranged brother back in 2017.

On Saturday, August 24, a newspaper report claimed that the acclaimed rock band are planning a huge reunion in 2025 with shows in Manchester and London.

The feud between Liam and ex-bandmate and brother Noel, which originally disbanded the group has been reportedly thawing over the years making the reunion even more exciting for life-long fans of the group.

In an interview marking 15 years since Noel dramatically left the band ahead of the 30th anniversary of their album Definitely Maybe, people were surprised to hear Noel offering a string of compliments about Liam.

He said: “I can’t sing Slide Away and Cigarettes & Alcohol and Rock ‘N’ Roll Star and Columbia and all that.

“I mean, I can do it but it’s not the same. It’s the delivery or the tone of his voice and the attitude. I don’t have the same attitude as him.”

He added: “When I would sing a song it would sound good, when he would sing it, it would sound great.”

Rumours of the historic reunion were published in today's Sunday Times.

Liam helped drive speculation this morning when he tweeted: “I never did like that word FORMER.”

Oasis was formed in 1991, with Liam and Noel enjoying an extremely successful career with multiple multi-platinum selling albums and sold out tours.

Their split in 2009 after an altercation at V Festival shocked and saddened everyone across the globe.

Their reunion is expected to be a legendary and one of a kind tour that will celebrate their years together and rekindle their relationship.
