I remember a time when as a lad, for pocket money, I sold copies of an evening newspaper from the steps of the old Midland Bank on the corner of the Market place and Cricklade street, writes Robert Heaven.
I read in the Standard that it is to be turned into a Cornish Pasty shop and I can't help thinking that I wish there had been hot pasties back on the cold winter nights when I was selling papers outside.
What a great come down for this once magnificent building built in 1915 with its imposing facade and cupola towering above the junction.
Pictures form 1915 and the later cupola repairs in 1987
