AT JUST eight years of age, Ollie Pugh from Fairford is already making a name for himself in the world of golf as an upcoming golf champion, writes Chris Roberts MBE.
His mother, Lorna said: “Ollie had a golf club in his hand before he could even walk!”
Ollie, who attends Hatherop Primary School, is a member of both Burford and Cirencester Golf Clubs and competes in the Gloucestershire Academy.
At the age of four, Ollie started his golf journey showing dedication and passion for the game.
His talents were showcased on the Kids’ Golf Podcast when he was just seven and it was clear to viewers then that Ollie was on the path to golf greatness.
This young golfing prodigy also gained his men’s WHS handicap at the age of seven and now plays off the men’s yellow tees!
Ollie gained valuable experience in the US Kids’ Golf Championship in July at The South West England Summer Tour at Kingsdown Golf Club (Corsham), Cirencester Golf Club and Wells Golf Club, and came away with a first place at two events and second place in another.
More recently, in The US Kids’ British Championship on August 8-9 at Woodhall Spa, Lincolnshire, Ollie’s dad, Daniel Pugh said: “The competition was fierce, as we expected at this level.
"We came home with no medals and no trophies, but this was Ollie’s first big competition, and he can’t wait to qualify and return next year.”
With the support of his family, James Harraway (coach and PGA Professional at Cirencester Golf Club), the golf community and platforms like the Kids’ Golf Podcast, Ollie is paving the way for a bright future in the sport.
