AN INDIAN restaurant which was 'gutted' after a fire earlier this year could soon be restored to its former glory.
Seven fire crews were called to The Bridge Indian Restaurant and Takeaway in Sherston after flames spread to its roof on Tuesday, April 9.
The Bridge, formerly a pub known as the Carpenters Arms, was “gutted” after a fire occurred in April, tearing through the north-east end of the building.
In total, 13 firefighters attended the emergency from seven stations and the Easton B4040 road was closed while the blaze was tackled with four water jets.
A spokesperson for the restaurant described it as “traumatic” at the time, but now a planning application that could see the venue repaired is set to be considered by Wiltshire Council.
It states: “Reinstatement will restore the building to its former appearance with matching materials used to refinish the aesthetics of the building externally.
“Works are to be expedited to ensure that further deterioration of the structure is minimised, as well as returning the streetscape to its former position and reinstating a public amenity.”
"We believe the works will not materially affect the overall external appearance of the building, as there will be no significant change to the building’s external appearance
"The visual appearance of the external materials and elevations, both in set out, colour and texture will be as existing or as close as possible
"The application site area is identical to the original building, the amendment does not increase the size of any part of the building, nor increase the height of the building or structure nor does it place any part of the building closer to a neighbour."
Earlier this month, a spokesperson for the restaurant said: "We hope everyone is keeping well!
"I am sure all of you are missing our curry.
"I am sure the wait is not going to be too long.
"There is work in progress and we are looking to serving and welcoming you again soon.
"We will keep you updated - you guys are strength of our business and we are looking forward to seeing you all soon."
At the time of the fire, a spokesperson for the restaurant said: "It’s a sad and traumatic moment for us.
"The support from our neighbours has always been our strength.
"We want to thank them all.
"Please keep us in your prayers."
