A TAPESTRY artist is coming to an art centre in Cirencester this August.
Jilly Edwards – Woven Tapestries: Follow the Thread will open in New Brewery Arts’ gallery space on August 10.
An accomplished weaver, Jilly has exhibited internationally across Europe, Japan and Australia across her five-decade-long career.
Her style has been described as like “painting with wool” and while abstract, plays with both colour and subtle texture.
She draws inspiration from her travels and sketches and collects ephemera to take back to her studio in Bath.
New Brewery Arts - located in Brewery Court - will also host an event in the gallery where the public will be able to meet and speak to Jilly about her work, journeys and memories.
This will take place on the opening day of the show.
Commenting on the exhibition, Jilly said: “Even after many years of exhibiting, it’s still an enormous thrill to be asked to do a solo show.
“It’s scary too - but to have an exhibition in my region is a true delight.
“This is a selection of work from over a long-ish period, with many a story to tell.”
“It is an absolute pleasure to welcome Jilly to our New Brewery Arts gallery this summer,” New Brewery Arts chief executive Beth Alden said.
“We are particularly excited to have her here in person on our opening day to meet and discuss her work.
“This collection of work showcases Jilly’s extraordinary career in textiles.
“Her work draws on her many travels for inspiration and has a painterly style that is both modern and exciting.
“We can’t wait to share this amazing collection of work.”
Jilly Edwards – Woven Tapestries: Follow the Thread will be at New Brewery Arts until October 12.
The public can meet Jilly from 2pm to 5pm on August 10.
