CIRENCESTER PARK is the summer setting for four striking sculptures by award-winning Oxfordshire-based artist, Hamish Mackie.
Visitors can enjoy his limited-edition bronzes and steel work against the backdrop of the historic Grade 1 listed parkland.
Sculptures include the ‘Leopard Life Size Climbing Tree, (2008)’, ‘Hares Monumental, (2021)’ and the magnificent ‘Andalusian Stallion, (2014)’ located at the top of the iconic Broad Avenue.
Those visiting The Old Kennels for refreshments at Roots+Seeds Restaurant, or the soon-to-open Cattivo Pizzeria, can see Mackie’s steel ‘Ammonite Cretaceous, (2018)’ in the courtyard dining area.
Hamish Mackie is one of the world’s foremost wildlife sculptors, who is renowned for bringing sculptures to life through detailed observation of his subjects in their natural habitats.
Largely self-taught, he frequently works in spontaneous, fluid gestures with a confidence born from many years of mastering his craft.
Hamish Mackie said:“ I love making large sculpture and Cirencester Park, with its historical landscape and striking rides, is an ideal location.
"I hope to make sculptures which not only sit naturally within an environment, but also enhance a landscape.
Sometimes it's that moment of surprise as you unexpectedly stumble across a sculpture, and other times when the sculpture is framed by the vista; what an amazing frame the Broad Avenue is for my Andalusian Horse!
"Thank you to the Bathurst Estate for supporting my large-scale sculpting.’’
Peter Clegg, CEO of The Bathurst Estate added: “It’s been great fun getting to know Hamish over the last few weeks and we are delighted to see his sculptures here this summer.
"We think they complement the Park landscape brilliantly and I for one am struggling to decide on a favourite. We hope lots of people will come and enjoy discovering these wonderful works of art.’’
Noting the historical context of the Park’s design, Lord Bathurst said: “These exciting new sculptures fit perfectly into the historic landscape, particularly the ‘Andalusian Stallion’, positioned on the skyline of the Broad Avenue.
"It draws one’s eye automatically onto it on entering the Park from Cecily Hill.’’
