VILLAGERS have joined a new crime fighting scheme aimed at deterring thieves and burglars.
Poole Keynes is set to become a Smart Water village thanks to a crime prevention initiative organised by Gloucestershire Constabulary.
Smart Water is a colourless liquid solution that can be applied to the surfaces of belongings and valuables.
It leaves a unique code which is almost impossible to remove and can only be viewed under ultraviolet light.
A police spokesperson said: “Marked items are then registered with a national database and in the event that they’re stolen and recovered, officers can ensure the property is reunited with the rightful owners.
“To deter thieves and help the community feel safe, we’ll be putting signs up around the village informing people Poole Keynes is a Smart Water protected area.”
