THE FAMILY of a much-loved Cirencester grandad who died last month have paid tributes to the 83-year-old. 

Michael (Mike) Maurice Grout  – who was a much-loved husband to Eileen, dad to Simon, father-in-law to Sylvia and grandad to Maia – died on Wednesday, June 19.

His funeral took place on Monday at Kingsdown Crematorium.

A well-known and much loved member of the Cirencester community, his family say he would be best remembered for his 32-year role with the post office in Castle Street. 

His family have paid an emotional tribute to him, thanking everyone for their support at this difficult time.

"He would support the club come rain or shine, through success and failure, until his health started to decline in recent years.

“He will be sorely missed as a regular supporter from the touch line.

“Mike was a man of many hobbies and passions, too many to mention.

"However his time as an active and enthusiastic member of the Cirencester Carnival Committee, are among many of the abiding memories his family fondly share.

“The carnivals were huge events of almost Rio de Janeiro proportions and Mike relished the challenge.

“We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who remembered Mike’s passing with lovely cards, flowers and warm messages.

”Everyone has a story to tell, such was Mike’s popularity.

“It is so comforting to know that there are so many in the local community who have taken the time to quietly reflect, mourn and remember a wonderful person.

“We can’t thank you enough.”
