A VIDEO has shown the moment a bus went up in flames on a busy A-road in Wiltshire.

The bus, which is believed to belong to Coachstyle, first caught fire on the A429 just after 4.30pm on Tuesday, June 25, and firefighters were immediately called to the scene.

The flames were seen just outside the Malmesbury Primary Care Centre and created traffic chaos as a stretch of the A429 was closed and multiple fire crews battled the fire.

In total, the bus burnt for almost five hours, as high voltage cables meant that firefighters had to wait at the scene for additional help.

"We received a call at 4.41pm with reports of an incident involving a large vehicle fire at Burton Hill, Malmesbury," said a spokesperson for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire Service.

"Crews from Chippenham (x2) and Malmesbury attended – the incident involved a single story coach, well alight.

"Two breathing apparatus wearers used three hose reels and a main jet to tackle the fire initially, but this was ceased whilst waiting for the arrival of the electricity board due to the involvement of high voltage cables."

The remains of the bus were recovered by 9pm and road closures were lifted shortly afterwards.

It remains unclear exactly how the fire started, but Wiltshire Police say there were no injuries.
