AMANDA Yates is attempting to row her way into the Guinness Book of World Records.

The 55 year old from Northleach has set herself the gruelling challenge of rowing 36 marathons on 36 consecutive days, all on a Concept2 indoor rowing machine.

Each marathon is 26.2 miles (42195m) so the total distance she will have covered is just over 1.5 million metres.

This epic row is taking place at Peak Fitness and Lifestyle gym, based at Far Peak near Northleach, under the supportive eye of her personal trainer, Ed Shaw, who owns the gym along with Dave Gainford.

Amanda has chosen to raise money for MAD (Making a Difference) Adventures, a CIC (Community Interest Company) which Ed set up a couple of years ago with Tim Lanfear and Roger Davies. MAD adventures provide outdoor activities for people with chronic illness, injury or disability such as MS, Parkinson’s Disease and stroke survivors. Their aim is to help people to understand how much more they can achieve physically and mentally and how that can help improve their daily movement.

Amanda’s efforts will help fund an outdoor weekend at Viney Hill in the Forest of Dean and also an adventure for one of the team, to raise awareness of the benefits of exercise for young people suffering with Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Amanda has been on her own personal health journey with Ed, having lost over three stone and improving her own fitness. Rowing such a long way is sure to be a challenge for anyone but Amanda is taking it in her stride.

“I love my new found fitness and am always keen to take on a challenge, this is certainly the biggest one yet!! I train at the gym almost every day and my target is to try and complete each marathon in under four hours,” said Amanda.

Amanda’s final row will be on Wednesday June 5th and a host of people will be there cheering her on. She expects to finish at 6pm.
