A POPULAR playpark which closed for almost a month has now reopened with a new look.

Old Court Park, in Royal Wootton Bassett, was closed by the town council on January 3 after families said a refurbishment was needed.

They said the old toddler play area did not match the facilities provided for older children. 

The newly refurbished park was reopened on Wednesday, January 31, by Royal Wootton Bassett Mayor Eve Silvester, the deputy mayor, town crier, and several 'mini residents'.

Young George and Shelby Scarrott, accompanied by their dad George of Scarttotts and Sons Funfair, were the first to test out the new equipment after having watched the park progress day by day.

The siblings were seen rushing into the park filled with joy the moment the red ribbon was cut by the Mayor.

The new playpark includes a shiny new slide with a mini tower, double swing, crazy hen rocker and spinner bowl.

"I was delighted to open the newly refurbished toddler play park yesterday, ably assisted by two local children who had eagerly watched the work being carried out over the past couple of weeks," said Mayor Eve Silvester, who cut the ribbon.

"It is important to regularly update and repair our equipment to ensure that we help to keep our children safe and happy and provide as much enjoyment as possible, and judging by the reactions of the children yesterday we have succeeded.

"Hopefully the new equipment will continue to bring pleasure to the children who visit and their parents and carers will also enjoy the play area."
