A NEW community minibus was shown to the public for the first time in Malmesbury over the weekend.
Dozens of residents rushed to see the new 17 seater Cartmell Community Minibus parked outside Malmesbury Town Hall on Saturday morning, January 27.
The pristine white minibus has been funded by The National Lottery Community Fund and Malmesbury League of Friends and has the words 'Serving Malmesbury and Beyond' written on it.
Residents and non-commercial community groups from Malmesbury and the surrounding villages will be able to hire the minibus for just £1.25 per mile.
Eligible volunteers who pass a short minibus assessment will also be able to drive the bus.
Former Malmesbury youth worker and community hero Cyril Cartmell, who died in 1978, was the inspiration behind the original minibus which has been replaced.
A spokesperson for Malmesbury Town Council said: "Well done to John Fairhurst and the hard working Management Committee of Trustees for making it happen and organising the launch event at Malmesbury Town Council."
