A FORMER AVENING resident has once again been nominated for an Oscar.
Thelma Schoonmaker, who was married to film director Michael Powell, has now been nominated for an Oscar for the ninth time.
Already a three time winner, Schoonmaker lived with Michael Powell in Avening before his death in 1990.
As part of Stroud Film Festival, she recently gave a talk at Avening Memorial Hall about the classic Black Narcissus.
She has now been nominated for an Oscar in the Film Editing category, for her work on Killers of the Flower Moon, directed by Martin Scorsese, whom Schoonmaker has worked with for many years.
Schoonmaker is up against Laurent Sénéchal for Anatomy of a Fall, Kevin Tent for The Holdovers, Jennifer Lane for Oppenheimer plus Yorgos Mavropsaridis for Poor Things.
The 2024 Oscars will take place on Sunday, march 10 at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood.
