STUDENTS from Royal Wootton Bassett Academy have braved the biting cold this Christmas to share festive joy around the town - in the form of chocolate.

Year 11 pupils and staff took to the streets, giving out hundreds of boxes of chocolates to the elderly in Royal Wootton Bassett.

According to a spokesperson from the school, the event was organised to help those who may be spending Christmas by themselves to feel less alone in the community.

“I am just overjoyed with the generosity and hard work each of our students have put in to make all this possible,” said David Storey, associate leadership team member at Royal Wootton Bassett Academy.

“Christmas is a time for giving and we hope that our gifts can spread the joy of Christmas to those who need it.”

The chocolate-giving initiative has been supported by Richard Crapper from Crapper and Sons Landfill Ltd since 2022, and school leaders say it would not be possible without him.

"Budgets are tight for all schools and we didn't have the funds to buy chocolates," explained David last December.

"So we reached out to a number of local businesses to see if they could help.

"We were really pleased that Richard said he would pay the full cost straight away."

Speaking about the chocolate giving on his company's Facebook page, Richard said: "My business is based in Royal Wootton Bassett and most of my employees live in the town so I try as much as I can to support our community."
