A FLOOD alert has been placed on rivers across the area as Storm Gerrit continues to hit the region.
The warning includes the River Churn in the Cirencester area, the River Thames and its small tributaries from Calcutt to Lechlade as well as the Upper Bristol Avon area including Malmesbury.
However, it is understood property flooding is not expected on the River Churn or the River Thames.
There is also currently a road closures due to flooding inlcuding the Main Road from Harnhill to near Cirencester as well as Cerney Wick Lane in Cerney Wick
The alert reads: “River levels are rising due to rainfall.
“Flooding is forecast to affect locations with low lying land expected to be most affected. Flooding is possible from December 28.
“We are monitoring rainfall and river levels and are checking rivers for blockages in the area and we will continue to monitor levels closely.
“Avoid using low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water.”
