A POPULAR sports bar in our area has been named one of the best in the UK.
Avid sports fans have flocked to the pub for a pint to watch the Rugby Word Cup or a football match over the last few weeks and a recent study by retailer Currys analysed more than 3,700 pubs in the UK to determine which is the best for sports fans.
The study scored pubs out of an overall 50 points, against factors such as the average price of a pint in the area, the number of screens, the availability of a big screen and anti-social behaviour figures per postcode.
The Frog and Fiddle in Cheltenham made the top 10 list, placing sixth overall with a score of 36.53.
The 12 screens throughout the pub and live streaming from Sky Sports and BT Sports, coupled with a average pint price £3.50 helped it secure this top ten position.
On their website, The Frog and Fiddle claims to offer "the best atmosphere to catch all major events'' and also proudly mentions that it is a wheelchair-accessible and a LGBTQIA+ friendly venue.
The Frog and Fiddle wasn't the only Cheltenham establishment to make it onto the top 20, Harry Cook Free House in Montpellier Walk ranked 19th, scoring 35.58 out of a possible 50 points.
For sports fans, the Montpellier venue offers the opportunity to book the best seats and stream live action from Sky Sports, TNT Sports, and terrestrial channels.
One drawback was the absence of outdoor screens in the garden area.
Overall, it was The One Trick Pony Club in Moseley Village, Birmingham, that took the top spot with a score of 39.37 points out of 50.
