POLICE have released an update following the ongoing chaos caused by a fuel tanker leak this morning.
Large amounts of diesel leaked from a fuel tanker spanning miles across the Stroud area from M5 junction 13 near Stonehouse all the way to Tetbury earlier today, Tuesday.
It is believed between 150 to 175 litres of diesel were spilled, with police describing affected roads "like driving on ice."
Police eventually tracked down the transporter driver after following a 15-mile diesel spill trail.
Areas that have particularly been affected by spills include the A46 Bath Road in Nailsworth, outside Renishaw on Latimer Road in Stonehouse, the Old Bristol Road in Nailsworth and the A4135 into Tetbury centre.
The A46 at Nailsworth to Calcot Crossroads still remains closed, according to police.
A statement from Gloucestershire Highways reads: "Please be careful when taking to the roads around this area.
"Reported oil spill from Shell garage in Eastington through to A419 towards Nailsworth.
"Please find alternative safe routes where possible. Crew are working to resolve the hazard."
A statement from Gloucestershire Police Specialist Ops reads: “OT56 has followed a large trail of diesel for 15 miles before finding the culprit.
“Between 150-175 litres of Diesel was spilt. Roads became like driving on ice. A46 Nailsworth - Calcot Crossroads still closed as this is the worst affected area. Apologies for the delays."
