A TEAM from Wessex Water has been sent to Malmesbury to urgently investigate a possible sewer flooding issue.
Sue Poole, a flood warden for Malmesbury Town Council, believes a sewage pump next to the Malmesbury Boxing Club is broken and has warned residents to avoid this area.
She took the following picture of flooding in the private car park behind the Co-op - which also belongs to The Athelstan Players and the Malmesbury Victoria Football Club - and said that the water looked like it was bubbling up by the end of the railings.
A spokesperson for Wessex Water said: “Flood water from this week’s intense rainfall can inundate the sewerage network and lead to flooding.
“We’re working with the council, flood wardens and others to establish whether there is any mechanical issue or simply a case of sewers becoming overwhelmed by rain.
"We will be sending a team out to urgently investigate this."
In additional, the football pitch on the Flying Monk field nearby is currently waterlogged, so weekend matches are likely to be cancelled.
Flooding has also considerably impacted part of the Old Station Mews road - between Kwik Fit and the Station Road Car Park - and flood wardens have urged motorists to drive carefully near this area.
This morning residents also raised concerns about impassable roads in neighbouring villages such as Great Somerford and Corston on Facebook.
