THE dedicated team who organise all the bustling markets in Cirencester's town centre won a prestigious award last week.
Cirencester Town Council’s community services team was awarded the Small Market Team of the Year award 2023 at the National Association of British Market Authorities gala awards dinner in Harrogate on Monday, October 9.
Judges praised the team for making the Market Place 'a central hub for information and advice' that brought local organisations, health providers and charities together.
Their comments described the markets as a 'welcoming and sharing space with extensive food and drink offers, encouraging users to sit a while and increase dwell time.'
They also commended the team for expanding the scope of market activities to encompass health service providers and local consultations.
It described the market as an 'important community asset in the life of the town' which provides an 'entertainment space to promote local talent and culture'.
Cllr Sarah Orr, lead member of community services and deputy mayor of Cirencester Town Council, said “This is well-deserved recognition for a team that works flat out to make sure Cirencester has a range of markets, events and community engagement that we can all be proud of."
Becky Coles, community services manager at Cirencester Town Council, said: “We’re delighted to receive this award for a second time.
"It recognises the team’s hard work, dedication and commitment to the town.
"It’s great to be recognised for the variety of markets and events we deliver and our continual development of the Market Place to become more of a community space.”
David Preston, chief executive of National Association of British Market Authorities (NABMA), said: “The NABMA Awards are a celebration of the best and brightest in the market business.
"They recognise the outstanding contributions of our members, and they inspire us all to continue to strive for excellence.
“This year’s winners are a shining example of the dedication and innovation that is on display throughout our industry.
"They are pushing the boundaries of what is possible, and they are making a real difference in the lives of their customers, employees and traders."
