THE A419 has reopened after a 'serious incident' this morning which involved the police.
At 7.30am this morning National Highways announced that the A419 was closed in both directions between the A420 (Swindon) and the A361 (South Marston) due to a 'police led incident'.
A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: "Please be aware that we are dealing with a serious incident on the A419 this morning.
"We have closed the A419 northbound between the White Hart roundabout and the Rat Trap roundabout, and southbound between the Blunsdon junction and the A361 slip road."
The emergency services were at the scene and the road remained closed for several hours the morning rush hour period.
Motorists were advised to follow the signed diversion for Northbound – A4312, B4143, A4311, Turnpike Junction and for Southbound – White Hart R.A.B, A4312, B4143, A4311 Turnpike Junction.
Just before 9am National Highways confirmed on Twitter that the A419 was now open in both directions between the A420 and A361 near Swindon.
However, a lane one closure still remains in place on the northbound carriageway.
Motorists have been advised to allow extra travel time if travelling northbound and to allow time for delays to clear southbound.
Wiltshire Police have not confirmed the nature of the incident.
