A NEW salon has opened in Malmesbury.
Former chef Darcie Quinnell, aged 26, has decided to ditch the apron and open her own DQ Nails & Beauty salon in Cross Hayes between The George Veterinary Hospital and Hyams Auto Ltd.
The salon opened to the public for the first time on Monday, July 17 and an official ribbon cutting by town mayor Gavin Grant will take place on Saturday, July 22.
Darcie grew up in Malmesbury and has been working as a chef in high-end restaurants in London for the last few years.
However, when she moved back home during the COVID-19 pandemic she discovered a passion for nails.
When restrictions eased she started doing her friends' nails as a side hustle alongside her day job.
Her brother's brave move to start a barber shop amidst the pandemic inspired her to make this dramatic career change.
Darcie said: "I have always been a local person and this is my way of giving back to the community.
"My brother's barber shop in Malmesbury has inspired me to pursue my dreams.
"This whole journey has been amazing, I feel like I was born to be my own boss.
"I want to offer the town affordable treatments and a good service.
"I love the endless possibilities that nail art attains, as a chef it was always helpful to have a creative side.
"I have had so much fun decorating the salon and setting up the social media accounts.
"Everything from the signs to the interior has come from the heart, I have loved every moment of it.
"I want the salon to be a welcoming space where I can help people in Malmesbury feel confident.
"To any young people who are thinking about starting a business, I say follow your gut.
"I have followed my gut in every decision I have made with this new salon, and I think if the thought of it excites you and puts a fire in your belly you should pursue it."
The salon will be offering a range of treatments including manicures, pedicures, lash lifts and Indian massage.
DQ Nails & Beauty salon will opening hours will be Monday-Tuesday: 9am - 6pm, Wednesday: 9am - 7pm, Thursday: 10am - 8pm, Friday: 9am - 6pm and Saturday: 9am - 2pm.
