One of the key displays set to take place at the Royal International Air Tattoo this weekend has been cancelled.

The RAF Fairford spectacular will be attended by thousands, with a packed schedule of displays promising to wow crowds from all over the world.

But the prospect of bad weather could hit the organisers' plans, with one of the key displays now no longer happening.

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight has been cancelled due to the adverse weather that has been forecast.

A tweet from the RAF specialist display’s account said: “We are very disappointed to confirm that our displays at the Air Tattoo on Friday and Saturday will not be going ahead due to the weather.

“We hope everyone attending still enjoys what promises to be a great show, and our PR team will still be there in the RAF experience zone.”

It still remains unclear whether other displays will also be called off due to the expected weather.

A tweet tonight from the Royal International Air Tattoo accound reads: “We're working with our Met Office colleagues and are monitoring the weather forecast for this weekend.

“Whilst we plan to deliver a full display programme, safety is paramount.

“Therefore it may be necessary to modify the flying display schedule as the conditions may not allow all aircraft to perform.”
