A branch of Empire Cinemas has suddenly closed.
The multiplex in Swindon has shut its doors for good because the company in charge of it has collapsed into administration, though other cinemas in the chain remain open around the UK.
Customers hoping to book tickets to films from Friday, July 7, onwards found that no times were available online. The website currently states that booking is unavailable due to technical difficulties.
People arrived at the entrance of the Greenbridge Retail Park site for their screening only to find the doors firmly shut and a notice stuck to the window which explains the situation.
It reads: "Antony Nygate, John Strowger and Danny Dartnaill of BDO LLP were appointed joint administrators of the company on July 7, 2023.
"Refunds for advance tickets bought online and those purchased at the box office have been refunded immediately.
"Gift cards, tickets, e-codes, guest passes and readmission tickets remain valid for redemption at trading Empire Cinemas at Birmingham, Clydebank, High Wycombe, Ipswich and Sutton, but refunds are not available.
