BEERS will come to life in an unusual performance in Cirencester this summer.
This play was the brain-child of staff at a popular microbrewery in Cirencester who wanted celebrate their 10 year anniversary in a unique way.
In 2021 founder of Corinium Ales Lucy Cordrey approached Cirencester Theatre Company to see if they would be interested in performing in a crafty comedy.
Lucy said: “I had an idea that involved bringing our beer characters to life and I’m over the moon that the Cirencester Theatre Company were so happy to work with us and develop the idea into a script for a play, as part of our 10 year celebrations!”
The bespoke script for All Roads Lead to Beer ~ hic hic hooray! is written by Stephen Connelly and Katy Sorensen and has been two years in the making.
Characters include Lady Corinium (a no nonsense traditional golden ale), Ale Caesar (a hoppy IPA), Firebird (a vibrant malty red ale) who squawks and flaps her magnificent wings throughout and mischievous Plautus (a pale ale with UK jester hop) who was an actual Roman comedy playwright back in the day.
Katy Sorensen, chair of Cirencester Theatre Company, said “We are so excited to be involved in this special celebration.
"We have several writers in our group and a passion for producing ‘home grown’ theatre - and what better setting than a sunny brewery courtyard?
"The fact that we’re supporting a fantastic local business in the process is the icing on the cake – or should I say, the head on the beer!
“The script is so much fun with lots of local references, and the costumes are sensational. It will be a weekend to remember.”
This comedy will be performed in the courtyard of Corinium Ales Brewery, located at The Old Kennels Cirencester Park in Tetbury Road, Cirencester.
The production is running for one weekend only, on Saturday, June, 24 starting at 7pm and for an afternoon performance on Sunday, June 25 starting at 3pm.
