TESCO Express is set to open in Cirencester tomorrow (April 27) following the closure of the superstore in Farrell Close.

This new smaller store will be located on the site of the old Dorothy Perkins shop in Cricklade Street, Cirencester.

The much-loved Farrell Close store will close its doors for the final time today (April 26).

A Tesco spokesperson previously said their new Express store would 'better serve the needs of customers' in the town centre.

The spokesperson said: “We have taken the difficult decision to close our Cirencester Superstore and have done so after concluding that a new Express format store would better serve the needs of customers in Cirencester town centre.

When the Farrell Close store closure was first announced in July 2022 a spokesperson for Cirencester Chamber of Commerce said: "It’s unfortunate that Tesco are moving from their store in town to a smaller one on Cricklade Street, as it seems that it will be one less reason for people to ‘pop into town’.

"We have concerns that the Brewery Court will be a difficult space to fill and urge Cotswold District Council to help find a replacement as soon as possible."

The Mayor of Cirencester Cllr Sabrina Dixon has shared her personal view on the change.

Cllr Sabrina Dixon said: "It is a shame to see the Tesco supermarket move and significantly reduce in size, as it has been serving many residents in the town centre for a long time.

"I encourage any business or organisation that is interested in moving to the site to approach the landlord at the earliest opportunity."
