Despite the colder weather, it can be nice to get out and about during the festive period when you’re not stuffing your face with turkey or itching to open all the presents.
Whether you’re looking to go for a walk on Boxing Day or during the lead up to New Year and you’re not sure where to go, look no further.
The National Trust has plenty of walking trails you can enjoy this winter in Gloucestershire and the Cotswolds and we’ve rounded up some you might like to try.
3 winter walks you can take in Gloucestershire this festive period
Woodchester Park boathouse walk
The valley of Woodchester Park could make for an ideal winter walk.
You’ll find the remains of an 18th and 19th century landscape park as well as a Victorian mansion.
There are five lakes along with plenty of wildlife and woodland.
The full trail is 3.5 miles long and takes around 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete.
Dogs are welcome but must be kept on leads.

Rodborough Common views walk
If you’re looking for a shorter walk, Rodborough Common could be ideal for you.
The one-mile trail takes around 40 minutes to complete and it’s dog friendly but all dogs must be kept on leads.
You’ll be able to take in views over the Stroud valley and Seven estuary.

Sherborne Park Estate
Why not take the family for a walk at Sherborne Park Estate this Christmas?
The route combines farmland with woodland and the village and you can look forward to views of Sherbourne Brook.
Look out for wildlife on this 2.5-mile walk, including farmland birds.
The walk takes around one hour and 30 minutes and if you’re taking your canine companion with you, all dogs will need to be kept under close control.
